Do You Know Forklift Counterweight?

Forklifts are a special type of equipment designed to lift, lower and transport heavy objects in material handling. They need to balance the weight to prevent the machine from tipping over and ensure the safety of the forklift. The installation of forklift counterweights requires special care to ensure that all risks are exposed to workers and bystanders, who have been operating safely.

Before installing the forklift counterweight, the operator should ensure that the forklift counterweight has been correctly calculated according to the forklift's maximum load.

Once the correct forklift weight is selected, the weight can be installed. The counterweight is vertically connected to the forklift frame. Therefore, connecting and adjusting the counterweight is time-consuming and laborious. Therefore, before that, some safety measures should be taken:

The rated capacity of the forklift must be affixed to the body, and it should be clearly visible to the operator.

If there are additional movable counterweights, the corresponding spare capacity must also be clearly marked and cannot be exceeded.

Take extra care when using another forklift to carry the counterweight.

Don't let the lifting forklift overturn.

The top mounting pin hole of the counterweight should always be fixed on the forklift.

When placing the fork on the counterweight plate, the tip of the fork should not protrude from the front of the counterweight plate, as this may damage the engine.

The capacity of the lifting device should be at least 20% higher than its weight.

After completing the safety precautions, you can start the installation. Lifting equipment with sufficient lifting capacity can be used to complete the installation process.

Many different types of forklifts, or lifts are used for material handling. Their main function is to transport materials of different sizes, shapes and weights to the forks.

Forklifts are usually classified according to the following parameters:

• Power type (electric or internal combustion engine)

• Location name (indoor or outdoor)

• The position of the operator (standing or sitting down)

• Tire (flat tire or pneumatic tire)

When carrying heavy objects, the forklift needs to increase the weight to ensure balance.

Increase the forklift counterweight to prevent the forklift from tipping over. Although the counterweights used in the material handling industry are much smaller than those used in the off-highway industry, they should have the required weight.

In addition to design, every manufacturer should focus on the choice of materials.

Cast iron counterweight is the best choice. Due to the relatively small volume of the forklift, the counterweight must have the best space utilization and provide the necessary counterweight. This can only be achieved with high-density materials, such as metals, especially gray cast iron.

Cheaper materials, such as concrete or a mixture of concrete and metal blocks, cannot achieve this goal because they take up more space with the same weight. Concrete will need to add aggregates or scrap metal blocks, projectiles or steel bars to make it denser. However, the density of cast metal is often higher than that of aggregate or mixed concrete.
